A high end card packed with benefits
Everyone knows this card. It has clout, cache, swagger. It’s made of metal. Clunk it down on the counter and watch the clerk stare at it. Then lift it up and comment on how heavy it is. But is it worth its weight in fees? Let’s break it down.
First, the hard to avoid fact. It has an annual fee of $695. Yes, that’s not a typo. It’s more than the Chase Sapphire Reserve. So it better have a ton of benefits to help offset the out of pocket cost to carry the card. And it does!
Here’s a quick list of the most attractive inclusions:
- $200 Hotel credit when booking Fine Hotels & Resorts (1 night minimum) or the Hotel Collection (2 night minimum) through the Amex portal
- $240 Digital Entertainment Credit, divided up into monthly credits of $20, to cover Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, The Wall Street Journal. Enrollment Required.
- Walmart+ membership $155, paid monthly to cover the membership fee
- Uber Cash $200 (given as $15/month and $25 in December) added directly to your Uber account. Use it for Uber rides or Uber Eats.
- $200 Airline Fee Credit. Pick one airline from their list and they will wipe out up to $200/yr on fees spent on baggage, seat fees, pet fees, etc. A full list of covered fees are on their web site.
- $189 Clear Plus credit will cover your fee when you sign up for Clear
- $100 every four years for Global Entry or $85 for TSA Pre-Check
- $50 Jan-Jun, and another $50 July-Dec to use at Saks Fifth Avenue for any purchase (excluding gift cards)
As you can see, the quick list shows that you get more than the annual fee back each year, if you can make use of all the benefits. And the list is not exhaustive-you also get American Express Global Lounge Access, including the coveted Centurion Lounges. Plus 5x points when booking directly with the airlines.

Look, there are a lot of benefits with this card. I haven’t even listed them all!! But is this card for you? If you fly often particularly internationally , spend a bit of time in airports, book rental cars, watch streaming services or have an open spot in your wallet and want to up your game, then yes, this is a great card for you!
The daily earning on the card isn’t the best, most purchases will only earn 1x. And the list of transfer partners is geared towards International travel, so if you are a “Orlando every year” person, then I’d look at another card. However, you absolutely need to check this one out if you are wondering if it’s worth it. Just one international flight per year makes this a must have.
